The short version
- Most companies now spend more on AI than it returns, because the tools sit disconnected from the actual work and are run by no one in particular.
- Claude Code puts one AI tool directly into the daily work: building small things, running research, and turning raw data into something you can act on.
- This is the summary. The full 18-page guide, with all ten workflows, is a free download below.
AI should earn its keep
Most companies are now spending more on AI than it returns. Budgets go up, a few pilots run, and the results never quite justify the invoice. The problem is rarely the model itself, but tools that sit in a corner, disconnected from the actual work and run by no one in particular.
There is a simpler way in. Put one capable AI tool directly into the daily work and let it earn its keep: building the small things you would otherwise wait weeks for, running the research you never have time for, and turning raw exports into something you can act on. That tool is Claude Code, and we run Ninja on it. The vault that holds our strategy, our campaign data and our client workspaces was built and is run with it. So this is not theory we read about. It is the way we work.
This article is the summary. The full guide walks through every step in plain language, and it is a free download at the bottom.
What the guide covers
The guide is written for founders and lean teams, not developers. It takes you from nothing installed to real work shipping, across ten short chapters:
- Where Claude Code runs. The desktop app with no terminal is the place to start. Pick by comfort, not by fear of the command line.
- Quick start. Installed and running your first task in about five minutes.
- CLAUDE.md, your business rules. One plain file that teaches Claude your business, voice and standards, so every task starts on the same page.
- The CLEAR framework. A simple way to write instructions that land the first time.
- What it can do for a lean team. Operations, growth, research and quick builds, grouped the way a B2B team actually works.
- Permissions and safety. The modes and the three habits that keep it useful and under control.
- Costs and choosing a model. What it runs on, which model to pick, and how to keep spend sensible.
- Connectors. How to plug Claude into the tools you already pay for, instead of copy-pasting between them.
- Privacy and GDPR. What happens to your data, and a short checklist if you serve customers in the EU or UK.
- Ten copy-paste workflows. Ready-to-use prompts for real B2B jobs: an ICP brief, an outbound sequence, reply triage, a competitor memo, a weekly report from a raw CSV, and more.
Who it is for
- Founders and owner-managers who carry the P&L and want AI to earn its keep, not add to the pile.
- Lean teams, roughly 10 to 250 people, where no one has a spare month to wait for a developer.
- Operators who want control and a clear plan, not another tool subscription and a vague promise.
If you have a real business and AI still feels like cost without return, this is the practical way in.
A taste: the CLEAR framework
The clearest single idea in the guide is how you ask. Treat Claude like a sharp new hire: the clearer the brief, the better the result. CLEAR is a quick check that your instruction has what it needs before you send it.
- C - Context. The background and the files it needs to understand your world.
- L - Layout. The format you want back: a table, a one-pager, a working page.
- E - Examples. What good looks like, even a rough sketch or a past result.
- A - Avoid. The guardrails and the things not to do.
- R - Result. The concrete deliverable: a file, a folder, a finished draft.
You do not need to label the five parts. Just make sure a prompt covers them. It is a thinking tool, not a form to fill in. The guide has before-and-after examples and nine more workflows built the same way.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be technical to use Claude Code?
No. Start with the Claude desktop app and its Code tab. There is no terminal and no code. You open a folder, describe what you need in plain language, and approve the result before anything is saved.
How much does Claude Code cost?
It runs on a Claude subscription. Pro is around 20 US dollars a month for light use, Max around 100 to 200 for daily building, and Team seats from around 25 per user, with Premium including Claude Code. There is also API billing for heavier or automated use.
Is it safe to let AI edit my files?
Yes, with a few habits. Work in a dedicated project folder so it only ever sees that folder, read what it proposes before you approve, and keep backups with git or a folder copy. In the default manual mode it asks before every action.
What is CLAUDE.md and why does it matter?
CLAUDE.md is a plain file that teaches Claude about your business, voice and standards, like the briefing you would give a sharp new hire. Write it once, keep it under about 200 lines, and every task starts on the same page.
What can a lean team actually build with it?
Internal tools and simple client-facing pages, research and competitor memos, reports and dashboards from raw exports, and a content engine that turns one good piece into a week of posts. The small builds that usually sit in a backlog.
Can Claude Code connect to the tools we already use?
Yes, through MCP connectors. Each connector is a bridge to an app such as your CRM, knowledge base, storage or inbox, so Claude works with your tools directly instead of you copy-pasting between them. Connect one you use daily, then add more.
