Download and unzip
Get the Claude desktop app (no terminal needed) and sign in. Unzip the Second Brain folder anywhere on your machine.
Open the folder
In the Claude app, open the Code tab and choose Open Folder. Point it at the Second Brain folder. It only ever sees that one place.
Type /setup
Answer three short questions about you and your business. In about two minutes you have a working system built around your work.

Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. The Second Brain is a free download. You do need a Claude subscription to run Claude Code (there is a free tier to try it), but the template itself costs nothing.
Do I need to be technical?
No. It runs in the Claude desktop app with no terminal and no code. If you can open a folder and type a sentence, you can run it. The included START-HERE guide walks you through the first five minutes.
What do I need to run it?
The Claude desktop app (macOS or Windows) and a Claude account. Obsidian is optional if you want to browse the notes in a nice editor, but it is not required.
What exactly do I get?
A folder you open in Claude Code. Running /setup builds a personalised vault and a CLAUDE.md briefing about your business, plus daily commands for starting, capturing, planning, reviewing and closing your work.
Is my data private?
The vault lives on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded to us. How Claude handles your data depends on your Claude plan and settings, which the included guide explains.
